Understanding Challenges, Get To Know the Creators: Davin Kweon
IN THIS 21C ERA,
DIALOGUE, LEARNING, AND CHANGE CAN HAPPEN IN MANY FORMS ACROSS DIGITAL MEDIUMS. HERE IS A RAW AND GENUINE dialogue WITH EMERGING CREATIVE VOICES BASED IN Korea and Perth.
Meet Davin Kweon aka pida as she shares about her foray into music!
Davin started to play the piano when she was 6 as a classical pianist. she says,
I used to practice a lot at church. I remember when I was with my friends, hanging out after practice, we kind of played with chords and started making lyrics just for fun. I was really into it. Even after my friends went home, I finished the song alone. I think that was my first creating process I've ever done for songwriting.
When asked about the challenges that come hand in hand with her creative practice Davin responds,
I think creating something is not one person's process. Until the song is finally finished, there are a lot of process to deal with. And I don't have every skill that I need for entire process. So I work with people who are specialized. I find right person, ask help and communicate about the project. I was struggled to say my thought or ideas when I work people because I ask people to help cuz I don't have enough knowledge about every process. But I can't just step back and let people do. I still need to feedback and tell them what I'm thinking about. I was afraid that what if my feedback or thought is not the best decision for it. I'm still learning about it but something I realized was "It's good to trust myself and trust people." If you trust yourself and trust people, we get courage to say ideas and also get faith that people will make my ideas even better. It's the best part of co-creating ! Like what God does with us in this world.
Q: If you could give your younger self one word of advice what would it be?
I would say "재밌게 ! ". Means have fun. When I was young, I practiced hard because I wanted get a good score, wanted to get compliments from my teacher. So that I felt pressure and pain than enjoying the beauty of art. Now I know art is a gift from God, I'm thinking what if I enjoyed at that time, I would have cherished more of the beauty and joy from God.
